Now you're ready to study an object in the sky!
The tool you will use to study your adopted object is called
the NVO Datascope. The
Datascope is a set of software tools that search astronomy databases around the world.
Astronomers use it every day, and the data it returns are the same data that
astronomers use for their research.
Open the NVO Datascope.
See the Datascope User's Guide to learn how to use it.
Use the Datascope and other web references to find out as much as you can
about this object. (Note that the Datascope refers to visible light as "optical.")
The next page gives you many other places to look for information about your object.
You may find magnitude and distance information from those references. Try to find some
of the history of the object as well.
Prepare a report for the rest of your class about your object. Show images
of it from the Datascope, in all wavelengths of light. What does the object look like
in different wavelengths of light? Also try to find the object's magnitude
and distance from Observations and Catalogs links in the Datascope.
