Other Wavelengths in Astronomy

If you look at the same object in different wavelengths of light, you see different things. You're still looking at the same object, but different wavelengths carry different information.

For example, the images below show the galaxy Centaurus A in four different wavelengths of light. All the pictures show the same galaxy at the same scale, but they all look totally different!

(The square is just the area astronomers chose to view - the galaxy is in the center)
